DICOM

DICOM is an abbreviation for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. It is an international standard used for storing, transmitting and managing information related to medical imaging and related data. This standard includes both a file format definition and a network communication protocol that uses TCP/IP to communicate between systems. DICOMis crucial to ensuring the interoperability of systems used to produce, store, share, display, send, process, retrieve and print medical images and to manage the associated workflows. When patients undergo radiological tests, such as CT scans, the image information is converted into aDICOM file, which can then be transferred between various medical devices and systems.
